Beryl and i810 driver (with AIGLX)

To make Beryl work on the i810 driver, I first of all started following the instructions from the AIGLX howto.

  1. Added x11-base/xorg-server aiglx to the /etc/portage/package.use file.
  2. Added
    x11-proto/inputproto ~x86

    #Modular X 7.1
    <x11-base/xorg-x11-7.2
    <x11-base/xorg-server-1.2
    <x11-drivers/xf86-input-evdev-1.2
    <x11-drivers/xf86-input-mouse-1.2
    <x11-drivers/xf86-input-keyboard-1.2
    #Fallback Video Drivers
    <x11-drivers/xf86-video-vga-4.2
    <x11-drivers/xf86-video-vesa-1.3
    x11-proto/glproto
    to /etc/portage/package.keywords
  3. Updated the packages (with emerge --sync and emerge --update xorg-x11 xorg-server xf86-input-evdev xf86-input-mouse xf86-input-keyboard xf86-video-vga xf86-video-vesa) and the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file according to the howto.
  4. Added also the following snippet to your /etc/portage/package.keywords:
    #Beryl Core
    x11-wm/beryl
    x11-wm/beryl-core
    x11-plugins/beryl-plugins
    x11-plugins/beryl-dbus
    x11-misc/beryl-manager
    x11-misc/beryl-settings
    x11-apps/xlsclients

    #Window Decorators
    x11-wm/emerald
    x11-misc/emerald-themes
    x11-themes/emerald-themes

    x11-wm/helidor
  5. Invoked emerge -puv world
  6. Put the following lines in my .xinitrc
    emerald &
    xfce4-session &
    beryl
  7. Ran startx from the command line!
